The Women's University of the State of Karnataka, Bijapur, established in August 2003 is the only university in the state of Karnataka, India., Dedicated exclusively to the education of women. The university is dedicated to promoting excellence through academic achievement, research, creativity, innovation, interaction and collaboration, the development of the personality and leadership qualities. The main objective is the empowerment of women through education, especially higher education and training. The university is located in Bijapur district and schools of all women in 12 districts of northern Karnataka, many of which are among the poorest and most backward of Karnataka are affiliated to it. The location of the university in Bijapur is intended to alleviate regional disparities in the state of Karnataka
